The Community
Celebrates!
First Night® is an exciting celebration of
the New Year. Members of the community come together in a
revival of an ancient tradition of marking the passage of
time with art, ritual and festivity in a safe and fun
atmosphere.
First Night® Dover takes place in both
indoor and outdoor locations in the downtown Dover area.
Indoor sites for the performing and visual arts include city
and state buildings, churches, halls, and banks, along with
downtown Dover’s businesses, storefront windows and
sidewalks. The cultural diversity and energy of the city
sets the stage for innovation and important community
interaction.
This New Year’s celebration includes a
children’s festival featuring performances and hands-on
activities specifically designed for children and their
parents. Following family fireworks early in the evening,
the night continues with performances by artists from across
the country that will entertain you with a wide variety of
music, song and dance. Midnight ushers in the New Year with
a bang with a spectacular fireworks display and a
traditional New Year’s Eve "ball drop."
